![]() Feb. 1, 2007 Rent a cozy cabin to cure what ails you By Radish staffWant to cure your cabin fever? Perhaps the best way is to go stay in a cabin – and surround yourself with the simplicity and wonder of winter. Here’s a look at five regional cabins – all offering just what the doctor ordered. Galena Log Cabin Getaway Halfway between Galena and Chestnut Mountain, guests of Galena Log Cabin Getaway can sit in a private whirlpool and gaze through a skylight at the stars above. Here there is no light pollution to hinder the heavenly view at night. By day, guests can enjoy the nature and wildlife along two miles of trails or visit the gentle and friendly alpacas being raised by owners Frank and Ruth Netzel. The Netzels purchased the cabins a year and a half ago and have completely renovated the interiors. The cabins are built entirely without nails … “the way they were built in the 1820s back when Galena was first established as a town,” says Frank Netzel. “The insides are absolutely gorgeous.” Each cabin offers 650 square feet in a one-room loft with a separate bathroom, double-whirlpool bathtub, gas-log fireplace and satellite TV. Winter rates (through April 30) per night for up to four persons are $160 Fridays and Saturdays, $140 Sundays through Thursdays (add $25 for each additional person). “Here the simplicity of life is our goal,” says Netzel. “We also want to attract people to nature and get away into a quiet, reserved area.” The alpacas are a big draw for adults and children alike. “Kids love the baby alpacas,” says Netzel.
